About
Founded by siblings Aaliyah Sweet P. Bailey (they/she), Ramon Bailey (he/him) and Janisha Bailey (she/her), the Center for Rural Parents is a Reproductive Justice organization that creates safe and sustainable rural communities free from intimate, community and state-sponsored violence by advocating for love and addressing the parenting needs of rural communities.
As defined by the Sistersong Women of Color Collective, Reproductive Justice is the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.
Aaliyah Sweet P. Bailey, (they/she), is a Black rural activist committee to closing health disparities across the Midwest, specializing on issues of domestic violence, mental and behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, prevention and harm reduction and sexual and reproductive health access. They currently serve as the Senior Communications Manager with the Illinois Public Health Institute. In 2020, Aaliyah was the Democratic Nominee for MO State Representative of District 64.
Ramon Bailey, (he/him), is a Union Labor with Southern Illinois Local 1197 and local historian. He is the father to one beautiful baby girl, Layla May.
Youth activist and mother of Irmonii, Janisha Bailey, (she/her), is a vocal rural racial justice advocate. Making her mark on Washington County in 2020, she led a Black Lives Matter march and rally of 200 people in the wake of the George Floyd and Breanna Taylor murders in Nashville, Il. Janisha continues to be involved in her community, serving as Youth Ambassador with the local Moose Lodge and fighting for reproductive freedom with Abortion Action Missouri (formerly Pro-Choice Missouri).
Not everyone will choose parenthood, but we are all children; every rural child deserves to safe and sustainable parenting.
